Library Success Tips

Tip 1: Get to know your Library Staff

Knowing librarians and supporting staff is a key element of library success. It makes it easier to ask questions to individuals that you know. It also helps to know the librarians' specializations so that you can ask the right questions to the right person.

Tip 2: Familiarize yourself with the Online Catalog

The online catalog contains records of all cataloged materials in the library. This includes books, journals, and media.

Tip 3: Learn all about the databases your library offers

The library offers many academic databases that can help with your research and assignments. These databases are generally paid for by your institution and offer a great deal of scholarly articles that would be extremely expensive  for students otherwise.

Tip 4: Make time for your library visit

Schedule your library visit and plan to spend at least 30 minutes to an hour browsing. The library has thousands of resources that may not be noticeable on a brief visit.

Tip 5: Know what information you are seeking

Knowing your research topic or specific assignment will save you from wasting valuable time. Every minute counts when deadlines are approaching!

Tip 6: Be mindful of the Library atmosphere

The library is still a place where many students come to study, read, or research in peace and quiet. Be mindful of this.

Tip 7: Visit frequently

Visit as often as you can! The library is always adding new and informative resources.
